OK Bandana
Today I made a very amazing discovery. I saw someone who wore a bandana. No, I wasn’t looking in the mirror, heaven forbid, and they weren’t wearing it like a pirate. They were wearing it properly, they were wearing it like I do and, most importantly, they were wearing it in front of me.
So I did what anybody would have done in my situation. I followed them.
He didn’t, for it was in fact a ‘he’, do anything of interest other than walk in the direction I had been planning on before I realised what they had wrapped around their head. Eventually he went into Next and I decided that it probably wasn’t worth following him if I had to go into a clothes shop. I HATE clothes shopping.
So we went our separate ways, he into Next, I into Ottakers to sign up for a “Magic: The Gathering” league. Ottakers is, for those of you out of the loop, a place that sells books, loads of them in fact. I had a quick browse although my lack of funds means I cannot afford to buy a book to read, no matter how much I would like to.
Having done everything I had planned to do in town, and a bit more (see above), I headed back to the bus station and caught the bus, but not before going to the library to see if they had the Boy Kill Boy album. They didn’t as it turns out. Instead I came away with Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’. But that’s not all I came away with, oh no!
I realised I had forgotten one important thing. Something seemingly insignificant but it did in fact solve all my problems. Well, ok not all of them. But one of them. The one important fact I had failed to remember was that the library did more than rent out CDs, it lends out books as well!
I had been annoyed because I couldn’t buy a book and there I was in a place that was practically giving them away! In fact they were giving them away, and that was just as good, if not better. What a discovery! Why hadn’t anybody reminded me? I promptly chose a book to read and headed to the counter to claim my free book.
I think there is an important lesson here that everybody could learn from. Why pay for things when you can get them for free? Robbers have been working on this principal for years! And while some do get caught, well, you don’t have to pay rent in prison.
